Branding Myself Through Packaging

How to go about designing packaging that reflects my unique skills and interests as a graphic designer

This is a project where I really discover who I am as a designer and what I am capable of. So I decided before I delved into the deep end where my brain was buzzing with ideas. I needed to start at the very beginning and like every other project I needed to do my homework.

I decided researching into brands would be a good place to start so I looked into different companies that have cleverly branded themselves, are known for their logos and resemble the companies clearly.

Below is the Unilever Logo which I found very interesting when researching. I already know a lot about Unilever as a Brand as my mum works for Unilever research so it makes sense to learn more about the logo itself. What looks like a giant "U" consists of small individual designs that link to different products and emotions. For example the dove in the right hand corner links in with "Dove" products.

"Our new identity is an expression of vitality, which is at the heart of everything we do - our brands, our people and our values. Each icon within our logo represents an aspect of our business." - Unilever website

Below is the Walt Disney logo which I think will help when researching into this project because it is a very simple design, with simple colours and simple shapes which appeal to the target audience of children and families. I want to be able to appeal to a variety of people using the same simple technique of the Walt Disney logo but I also want to include my individual interests like the Unilever logo does for its products.
